Welcome to my blog!

For all you nocturnal medical personnel out there who are cruising through the web reading the crazy stories and laugh out loud wildness that happens in the darkened halls of the hospital during the late late shift, this blog is for you! For those that are ICU/ER nurses who love to hear and share stories about your particular situation in your units across America, welcome!

I have been an ICU/ER nurse for a long time and have seen and done a lot of things that make my family and friends cringe when I sit at the dinner table for Thanksgiving or Christmas. They are never sure if I am going to fall asleep in my food, having just gotten off work, or if I am about to tell them a particularly "interesting" story about what some "idiot" did the night before. My three teen sons are especially appalled when I tell them that all it takes is one night with me in the unit to keep them from drinking/driving, having unprotected sex, placing things in orifices that don't belong, getting into fights, shooting at people, etc. etc. ad nauseam!

I have a wicked sense of humor which I believe keeps me sane and also keeps me from temporary insanity of the murderous type. I think that most nurses have that sense of humor to keep the burnout and melancholy at bay. I have a very good friend who says that most nurses are either OCD or ADD or both and I believe him! Look around your unit and the nurses working there with you tonight and I bet you can find the OCDr's pretty damn quickly :).

Within the last month I have wanted to write and share about the things that have been brewing in my brain and someone told me that a blog is a great place to do it.......so here I start and hope to be able to find some response to what is probably universal crazy venting! Sure my blog will include the normal nursing venting along with single parenting of 3 sons who are more men than boys and being a daughter of a Baptist preacher and being friends with my ex-huband and his 27 year old wife! So hang on for the ride........I can guarantee my mind can be a twisted place to hang, but it won't be boring!

Long shift ahead, Sherry
